Committees/UNCSTD

About the Committee

The United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development (UNCSTD) is a subsidiary body of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) that serves as a global platform for addressing emerging technologies and their implications for sustainable development. Established in 1992, the commission works closely with UNCTAD and other UN agencies to guide international policies on digital transformation, data governance, and technological innovation. The committee provides governments and experts a forum to deliberate on how scientific advancements can be aligned with equity, inclusivity, and global cooperation.

In this committee and agenda, delegates will focus on the development of international frameworks for database distinction on machine learning algorithms and their automation. As artificial intelligence and automation increasingly resist massive datasets, issues such as data accuracy, transparency, and privacy have become central to both ethics and global governance. Improperly compiled or biased data can lead to discriminatory outcomes, while the lack of proper privacy mechanisms threatens individual rights and public trust. Delegates will be expected to explore strategies for improving database quality, strengthening data protection laws, and promoting interoperability among international frameworks.
